Notice to Virginia Legislators: Our Eyes are on YOU!

The heat is on, and taxpayers are not sitting idle with the current debate on the second sister, HB 6055 (it’s older sister was the unconstitutional HB 3202, the bill establishing abuser fees and regional tax authorities).     The Right-Wing Liberal has a great post detailing how Grover Norquist and Americans for Tax Reform will be holding the legislators who signed the Taxpayers Protection Pledge accountable for their vote/opposition to this bill.   Here is the link to the letter that Norquist sent to members of the General Assembly.

We need to improve transportation, but there are more common sense solutions than raising taxes and making areas, like Northern Virginia, more expensive to call home.  Let’s see, you could cut unnecessary programs or utilize current funds to accommodate for improvements.  How about an audit to VDOT?  Anything, but raise taxes!

To any legislator who signed this pledge, please do what is right and listen to those who worked hard to ensure your election.   Nothing upsets taxpayers (and voters) more than to hear that they have to pay to accommodate for a lack of fiscal discipline.

UPDATE:  Here is the link from ATR’s website of those who have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge from Virginia.  If your Senator or Delegate signed the pledge, please call them today and tell them NOT to forget the taxpayers and vote AGAINST HB 6055.

GQ Interviews Bob Barr: Give Him Liberty, Or…

Bob Barr, the former Republican turned Libertarian candidate for President, on the faux-conservatism of John McCain, the uselessness of the federal government, and why he’s now in favor of gay marriage.

I like Bob Barr, but I am still one of those undecided voters.  As a libertarian leaning Republican, there are some issues that Barr and I agree on, but other issues where I differ.  One of those issues would be gay marriage.  Marriage has always been defined as one man and one woman.  For me, it is a moral issue, since it is clearly defined in The Bible as being the joining of one man and one woman.

Otherwise, I am leaning towards Barr but remain uncommitted on my decision.
