Running Injuries Are The Devil!

Normally, I do not post personal things on the blog.  However, I am in the midst of training for my first 5K race (which was supposed to be the Crystal City Race on July 26th–thankfully, I have not even registered).   I have actually been doing well with the running by exceeding the 5K (3.2 miles) and running 4 miles every other day.   Well, it looks like I am sidelined with a nice running injury…a torn calf muscle!

If there are any runners out there, who could provide advice on how to deal with these common ailments or encouragement, I would greatly appreciate it, especially since I do not want to be sidelined until next year.  So far, it looks like the ice pack and pillow will be my new best friend until I recuperate.

The What-If Challenge Has Been Issued to Crystal Clear Conservative

My readers are probably curious to know about the What-If Challenge (because it seriously is a “What-If”).  There has been a challenge issued by a few of my friends and some family members stating that if the New York Yankees do not make the AL Championship game this year, then I would have to don Boston Red Sox gear for a photo opportunity which would be posted on this blog for all to see.  You see, I have a lot of Red Sox friends and family members who cheer on the O’s.

Well, you have heard it here first!  I would gladly take them up on this challenge, so the Yankees better start winning (because I do not want to think about putting a Red Sox jersey near or on my body)! :-)

If the Yankees make it to the AL title game, then my friends and certain family members should be prepared to sing a rousing (and slightly embarrassing) version of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” wearing Yankees hats!

Game’s On!!

Free Speech Rights Not Guaranteed in ‘Public’ Online Spaces

Rant all you want in a public park. A police officer generally won’t eject you for your remarks alone, however unpopular or provocative. Say it on the Internet, and you’ll find that free speech and other constitutional rights are anything but guaranteed.

This was an interesting article that offers a new perspective on the 1st Amendment and how it applies to the online new media.

Drip by drip, Starbucks lost what made it shine

Starbucks once defined the coffee market but has lost control of its brand. Its ubiquity has killed the joy of discovering a new hangout.

Tom Mullaney wrote in the Chicago Tribune about the failed business strategy that Starbucks has embraced recently and contributed this to the recent decline in sales. The Starbucks he once knew is now gone, thanks in part to the overgrowth by the company. I have to concur with his thoughts, because it seems like their coffee no longer has the same quality it had a few years back. Although, I admitted that I am still a Starbucks fan, I am now starting to realize that the smaller coffee houses have better quality and much more ambiance.

HB 6055: Keep an Eye on These Legislators!

Well, I wanted to follow up with the previous post about HB 6055 and the Virginia politicians who have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.   HB 6055, as you know is an abysmal attempt to raise our taxes to pay for transportation improvements, and when the General Assembly reconvenes on July 9th, it is imperative that we keep an eye on how these legislators vote on this horrid bill.   Well, here are the names of the legislators who signed the pledge, please call them today to voice your disapproval of HB 6055:

Dave Albo (Fairfax), Rob Bell (Albemarle/Fluvanna/Greene), Kathy Byron (Bedford/Campbell), Ben Cline (Rockbridge), Mark Cole (Fauquier/Stafford/Spotsylvania),  Kirk Cox (Colonial Heights), Jeff Frederick (Prince William), Thomas Gear (York), C. Todd Gilbert (Page/Rappahannock/Shenandoah), Frank Hargrove (Hanover), Tim Hugo (Fairfax), Bill Janis (Henrico), Steve Landes (Waynesboro), Scott Lingamfelter (Prince William/Fauquier), Bob Marshall (Prince William), Harvey Morgan (Gloucester), Sam Nixon (Chesterfield), Chris Peace (Hanover), Chris Saxman (Staunton), Terrie Suit (Virginia Beach), Lee Ware (Powhatan), Tommy Wright (Amelia).

The main number is 804-698-1500, so tell your legislators that raising taxes to fund for transportation improvements is not the answer!

It is a shame that our leaders have to back down on the promises they made to their constituents by raising taxes.   There is such a thing as fiscal responsibility!  I also agree with my fellow blogger, The Right-Wing Liberal, when he mentions that passage of this bill could possibly determine the outcome of the delegate races in 2009 (especially in Northern Virginia).
