Illegal Immigration Numbers Are Dropping

According to a recent report by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), the numbers have declined between last summer and May 2008.   The study has shown that many illegal immigrants are leaving at their own free will or to tougher crackdowns by local jurisdictions.

In a report by Dr. Steven Camarota and Karen Jensenius, entitled Homeward Bound:  Recent Immigration Enforcement and the Decline in the Illegal Alien Population, there was considerable mention of certain states utilizing an e-verify system to check the immigration status of potential employees that employers can use to help crack down on knowingly hiring illegal aliens.  Virginia should join these states by utilizing this technology, and in fact, this is something that should be looked at by the Attorney General’s office and county law enforcement agencies.
