Yankees to miss playoffs for 1st time since 1995

The New York Yankees will miss the postseason for the first time since starting their run in 1995. Mike Mussina pitched five shutout innings to earn his 19th win, Jason Giambi homered and the Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 on Tuesday night.

I am now in a state of Yankee Depression, and since I will not cheer on a National League team, I guess I will be cheering for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

  1. Personally, I’m going to root for Joe Torre and the Dodgers simply because I know that the further they go in the playoffs, the more that idiot Hank Steinbrenner will get annoyed.

And, if they make it to the WS, there’s no way I can’t hope that the Chicago Cubs go all the way, finally.

  2. Especially after Little Stein said this:

Baseball went to a multidivision setup to create more races, rivalries and excitement. But it isn’t fair. You see it this season, with plenty of people in the media pointing out that Joe Torre and the Dodgers are going to the playoffs while we’re not. This is by no means a knock on Torre — let me make that clear — but look at the division they’re in. If L.A. were in the A.L. East, it wouldn’t be in the playoff discussion. The A.L. East is never weak. Ask the teams that finished behind us all of those seasons. I’ll say it right now: Boston should have made the playoffs in 1978. We beat the Red Sox in that one-game playoff, but they still had a better record than the Royals, who won the A.L. West. And that’s one of many examples.

I’m happy for Joe, but you have to compare the divisions and the competition. What if the Yankees finish the season with more wins than the Dodgers but the Dodgers make the playoffs? Does that make the Dodgers a better team? No.

    A better team ?

Well we won’t ever know that Hank, and it isn’t really Joe Torre’s fault that outside of Arizona the rest of the NL West pretty much stinks.

But, the Dodgers are a team that’s going to the playoffs for the first time since 2006 and the guy Hank fired is taking them there.

That’s called poetic justice in my book ;)

(No, I really don’t like the Steinbrenner brothers and what they are doing to the Yankees)
