Rush Limbaugh & Aging Women

This evening, Barbara Walters had her annual 10 Most Fascinating People special which featured Rush Limbaugh. Before airing, controversy erupted over Limbaugh’s comments regarding Hillary Clinton’s looks and the culture’s regard for aging women.  Here is an excerpted transcript of the exchange:

  • WALTERS: I want to quote something you said. “Does the country actually want to watch a woman get older before their eyes on a daily basis?” You said this about Hillary Clinton.
  • RUSH LIMBAUGH: Yes.
  • WALTERS: You have watched me get older on a daily basis.
  • LIMBAUGH: Right.
  • WALTERS: Sarah Palin, whom you love, is going to get older on a daily basis.
  • LIMBAUGH: Yes.
  • WALTERS: Men get older on a daily basis. What’s with you Rush?
  • LIMBAUGH: [laughing] You know the context-
  • WALTERS: I never thought I’d be sitting here doing a number with you.
  • LIMBAUGH: The context of the statement was how unfair our culture is to aging women versus aging men.
  • WALTERS: You weren’t fighting our battle.
  • LIMBAUGH: I was!
  • WALTERS: No.
  • LIMBAUGH: I meant it as a comment on our culture in a sympathetic way.
  • WALTERS: Okay, I will let that go.

Rush acquits himself well in making a fair comment about the culture’s treatment of aging men versus aging women.  Now, let me make an unfair comment….

It’s a man’s world and in it, women will be forever judged by their looks.  This goes to women being judged by men as well as by other women.

Now, you might hear women retorting: “Wait, but I have a law degree!”  The response to this contention is: what part of “woman will be forever judged by their looks” don’t you understand!!??

Now ladies,…don’t let this get you down because the good news is that weight is the most significant determinant of a woman’s looks.  This is one factor upon which women can exert a significant amount of control!  To all of the young professional women in the DC area: now, knowing that men don’t give a rat’s fig about your professional credentials, get in the gym and start lifting something besides the Haagen Daz.

There used to be a time when women publicly shamed each other to get in shape.  30 years of self-esteem boosting, capped of with nearly a decade of Bob Costas whining about title IX when an American woman wins a gold medal, and what do we have to show for it?

Keep in mind that women with their weight under control grow old quite gracefully.

Thank me.

Yours Truely,

200 Grande

ps. The other factors that contribute to a woman’s looks are hair length, femininity, and an attitude that doesn’t overreach her attractiveness.  We’ll leave those for another day.
