House of Delegates Pass The Budget, while Senate Delays Vote

The Virginia General Assembly session has been marred by the budget crisis that the Commonwealth has been facing for a while, and yesterday was the first step towards setting the budget for this fiscal year. The House of Delegates passed the budget without raising the cigarette tax, eliminating the “dealer discount” which allowed retailers to collect sales taxes, in addition to, striking Planned Parenthood funding and embryonic stem cell research.

Meanwhile, the Senate delayed the vote on the budget to see exactly how much funding would be granted through the Stimulus package and the sales tax reports.

Hopefully, there will not be any tax increases or any shady business coming from Richmond. Let’s solve this in a fiscally responsible way.

  1. Governor Kaine will soon get a look at the Motor Vehicle Dealers Revision and Clarification Responsibilities of Manufacturers HB 1778 (Passed 98-0) and SB 1410 (Passed 40-0). Looks like a non-controversial bill – but Volkswagen is bringing on the heat with GOP lawmakers (Chris Jankowski and Friends are on retainer as one of the highly priced political consultants).
What the manufacturer PR types and media toadies (RTD) don’t want to tell is the back story.
Manufacturers expect car dealers to bail them out when auto manufacturers screwed up. That’s why the Detroit Three CEO’s flew to Congress on their personal jets (Bailout Airlines 1-2-3) for salvation. But what about when Virginia car dealers want some measures of help to partially offset the mega-losses a manufacturer causes when it quits making cars it agreed to producing? The answer the car makers want to palm off is that dealers should just be good soldiers and accept the destruction of their businesses and lives’ work without compensation of any kind because a car maker wants to take its ball and go home. VW has a nerve to attack this piece of legislation when their employees do not pay sales tax and personal property taxes on their cars. That’s why I’m Not Don Trump!
