You may be asking yourself when can I truly have freedom from taxation or when will our government stop taking our money and using it for wasteful projects. Well, Virginia is considered to have more freedom, than nearby neighboring states. In a recent Mercatus Center study, Virginia ranks ninth in overall freedom. Other neighboring states ranked much lower, with the exception of Tennessee, which was ranked at seven in terms of overall freedom. North Carolina is ranked 23, West Virginia is ranked 33, and Maryland is ranked a lowly 46 on the freedom scale.
So, what makes Virginia rank highly on the freedom scale? Is it because we are more fiscally responsible, is it because we do not pose a hefty burden of economic restraints on businesses, or is it because individuals are granted more extensive personal liberties? They are all factors in this study.
With the recent passage of transparency legislation, the Commonwealth of Virginia is one step closer to economic freedom.
