The Flight to Nowhere
Rep. John Murtha is the King of Earmarks, and he sure brings back government waste (i.e. the bacon). This video shows where some of his bacon goes, and this is in the form of an airport that only serves 20 people a day. Wow, 20 people a day, and the airport is nearby Pittsburgh’s airport. Pat on the back, Jack…NOT! Not only is this a fine example of government waste, but it is the taxpayers that suffer to provide improvements, etc.

As ridiculous as this sounds and is, John Murtha’s project did not raise taxes on anyone in this country. This airport did not cost taxpayers a single penny more than they would have paid othewise.
Somewhere conservatives have been labeled as the earmark people, when earmarks are both constitutional, and when used responsibly, a good thing.
In fact, if the money was not spent on this airport, it may have just as easily been spent on building an airport in Iraq for Iraqi citizens.
By it’s very definition this is not an example of government waste because the government would not have given this money back. In fact this is the exact oppose of waste, even as foolish as building an airport for 20 people may sound.
This money was not going to be given back to the tax-payers. It was either going to be wasted or it was going to be spent on something in a Congressman’s home district. Isn’t it better that at least Americans get to use and benefit from something that they gave tax money to?
