What if Government Ran Health Care?

Reason.tv made an awesome video, based on the Sprint commercials, asking “What if Government Ran Health Care?” While satirical, the video made a good point that our basic health care services would be in decline. Now, I agree that we need to address health care reform, but we need to do this in a pragmatic way that will not place further harm on our free market economy.

Government runs our military and we seem pretty good at that. Local government usually runs fire, police protection, water and sewerage, and in spite of some problems, those services generally work well.

The United States has routinely been able to become the best in the world at whatever we put our collective will behind. I see no valid rationale why we should assume our National Heath Service would experience problems attributed to such efforts by Britain or Canada.

Critics of an NHS always grumble about “big government” but they never get around to explaining why they choose to trust the big multinational (read: Communist Chinese owned) insurance conglomerates?

We should not be heading down the path of “Obamacare.” Instead, we should be cutting the insurance companies out of the health care industry, altogether.

This would free American businesses to hire whomever they want, without reservations about the employees’ heath risks. The offshoot of the NHS taking over the burden of health care from business will be that more full time, better paying jobs shall be created.

With a NHS, Americans would no longer be forced into bankruptcy due to a chronic or catastrophic illness and we would finally put an end to having insurance reviewers determine just what care we will get and worst of all, to be denied coverage when we need it most.

An NHS will be pro-business, since it will free American companies to focus on producing goods and services, rather than funding their medical benefit programs.

  2. What if Corporations ran health care…let’s see you’d have to run a raffle if you got breast cancer and wanted the most effective treatment b/c corporations are more interested in the bottom line and to attend to their bottom line they deny lots of medical care (calling it experimental) even when it’s accepted as a standard of care. Costs will increase every year and you will pay even more in out of pocket expenses.

If you get sick? Well beware…you may soon join the ranks of folks filing for bankruptcy and the new bankruptcy laws won’t save your home for you. And to add injury to insult….if you can’t continue to work you will have 18 months of COBRA (IF you can avoid the higher co-pays). After the 18 months, then see if you can find anyone who will insure you with your pre-existing condition.

Even if you have the cadillac of insurance (unless you are a Senator or a Representative….Insurance companies refuse to piss these “influential” folks off) this scenario applies to you.

Contrast this with what the rest of the “developed” nations offer their citizens. Healthcare cradle to grave no matter what. Most have no-co-pays and no montlhy premiums. The health care is excellent and the wait is often shorter than here in the U.S. BUT if you have something serious you will go to the head of the line….as it should be.

But folks in the USA would rather have their taxes be funneled into the Pentagon/CIA/Defense system (which recently LOST 3 trillion dollars they cannot account for)…..and into Corporate welfare….wow did you know that General Electric got a LOT of money from the bank bail out with no strict oversight….and what about that 3 trillion dollars that the Federal Reserve gave to who know who for who knows what because the Federal reserve refuses to tell Congress where it went.

And yet you worry that finally the average American citizen might get something that is beneficial for all those taxes. Naybe you should start worrying about how the corporate lobbyists have bought our Congress so they can robb us blind legally.

heaven forbid if we should save 30-40% off our healthcare by cutting the greedy insurance industry out of our healthcare…..but oh now profits are sacred….life is expendable. So much for American family values…..
