Taxes on SUVs and Minivans–What will the Dem Candidates think of next?

One of the Democrats running for the House of Delegates in Virginia is proposing that we “charge vehicle property taxes in a way that corresponds to each driver’s contribution to congestion and excessive road wear, e.g., by weight of vehicles.” Democrat Sue Conrad is running for Delegate against Tim Hugo in the 40th District, and she proposed this idea on her website. Conrad stands in favor of taxing your SUV or Minivan (if you own both, make that a double tax).

Considering that the 40th District (which comprises of Clifton and Centreville’s many back roads), many residents own either a SUV or Minivan. Do they deserve an additional tax for their vehicles? No. In fact, Conrad is proposing another nanny state regulation that will not address the transportation woes facing many commuters in her district. In this economy, many people can not afford to be slammed with another useless tax.

Fimian to hold an OPEN Health Care Town Hall Meeting

Compared to our current Congressman holding health care town hall meetings at gated retirement communities, Republican candidate for Congress, Keith Fimian wants to hold a town hall meeting that ALL constituents can attend and learn more about health care reform. On September 1st at the Fairfax County Government Center, Fimian will be holding a health care information panel featuring speakers, such as Grace-Marie Turner of the Galen Institute, Jim Capretta, Ethics and Public Policy Center, and Thomas Miller, American Enterprise Institute. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Setting the Record Straight on Health Care

Leslie Carbone, who is a fellow blogger and author of Slaying Leviathan (yes, you should buy this book ASAP), set the record straight at the Moran/Dean Town Hall meeting with two Obamacare supporters. Here are the videos of the exchanges:

Forget Free Speech!

This security officer in the video below should be reprimanded and removed from his duties after telling a protester at the Moran/Dean town hall meeting that he was not allowed to display a sign featuring the Obama joker image. This protester was only using his right to free speech by displaying this sign on school property while the town hall meeting was taking place inside. The protester told the officer, “This used to be America,” and the officer replied, “It ain’t no more, ok?” The officer, then, threatened the protester with a citation if he refused to put down the sign.

Well, it is not okay, because we still live in the land of the free, where we have the right to speak out in protest against our leaders. Personally, I would have taken the citation and fought it in court.

I'm Sorry We're NOT Rocket Scientists…

I received this email from one of my good friends today reminding me why the “rocket scientists” in control of Congress might not be capable of leading.

A DC airport ticket agent offers some examples of ‘why’ our country is in trouble!

1. I had a New Hampshire Congresswoman (Carol Shea-Porter) (D) ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn’t get messed up by being near the window. (On an airplane!)

2. I got a call from a Kansas Congressman’s (Moore) (D) staffer (Howard Bauleke), who wanted to go to Capetown. I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information, and then he interrupted me with, ”I’m not trying to make you look stupid, but Capetown is in Massachusetts.”
Without trying to make him look stupid, I calmly explained, ”Cape Cod is in Massachusetts, Capetown is in Africa ”

his response — click.

3. A senior Vermont Congressman (Bernie Sanders) (D-Socailist) called, furious about a Florida package we did. I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando . He said he was expecting an ocean-view room. I tried to explain that’s not possible, since Orlando is in the middle of the state.
He replied, “don’t lie to me, I looked on the map and Florida is a very thin state!” (OMG)

4. I got a call from a lawmaker’s wife (Landra Reid) who asked, ”Is it possible to see England from Canada?”
I said, ”No.”
She said, ”But they look so close on the map.” (OMG, again!)

5. An aide for a cabinet member (Janet Napolitano) (D) once called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas. I pulled up the reservation and noticed he had only a 1-hour layover in Dallas . When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, ”I heard Dallas was a big airport, and we will need a car to drive between gates to save time.” (Aghhhh)

6. An Illinois Congresswoman (Jan Schakowsky) (D) called last week. She needed to know how it was possible that her flight from Detroit left at 8:30 a.m., and got to Chicago at 8:33 a.m.
I explained that Michigan was an hour ahead of Illinois , but she couldn’t understand the concept of time zones. Finally, I told her the plane went fast, and she bought that.

7. A New York lawmaker (Jerrold Nadler) (D) called and asked, ”Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know whose luggage belongs to whom?’ ‘ I said, ‘No, why do you ask?”
He replied, ”Well, when I checked in with the airline, they put a tag on my luggage that said (FAT), and I’m overweight. I think that’s very rude!”
After putting him on hold for a minute, while I looked into it. (I was dying laughing). I came back and explained the city code for Fresno, Ca. is (FAT – Fresno Air Terminal), and the airline was just putting a destination tag on his luggage.

8. A Senator John Kerry (D) aide (Lindsay Ross) called to inquire about a trip package to Hawaii. After going over all the cost info, she asked, ”Would it be cheaper to fly to California and then take the train to Hawaii?”

9. I just got off the phone with a freshman Congressman, Bobby Bright (D) from Alabama who asked, ”How do I know which plane to get on?”
I asked him what exactly he meant, to which he replied, ”I was told my flight number is 823, but none of these planes have numbers on them.”

10. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) called and said, ”I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola, Florida. Do I have to get on one of those little computer planes?”
I asked if she meant fly to Pensacola, FL on a commuter plane.
She said, ”Yeah, whatever, smarty!”

11. Mary Landrieu (D) La. Senator called and had a question about the documents she needed in order to fly to China . After a lengthy discussion about passports, I reminded her that she needed a visa. ‘Oh, no I don’t. I’ve been to China many times and never had to have one of those.”
I double checked and sure enough, her stay required a visa. When I told her this she said, ”Look, I’ve been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express!”

12. A New Jersey Congressman (John Adler) (D) called to make reservations, ”I want to go from Chicago to Rhino, New York ..”
I was at a loss for words. Finally, I said, ”Are you sure that’s the name of the town?”
‘Yes, what flights do you have?” replied the man.
After some searching, I came back with, ”I’m sorry, sir, I’ve looked up every airport code in the country and can’t find a rhino anywhere.”
”The man retorted, ”Oh, don’t be silly! Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!”
So I scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, ”You don’t mean Buffalo , do you?”
The reply? ”Whatever! I knew it was a big animal.”
Now you know why the Government is in the shape that it’s in!

Wow, I’m speechless!

Who's the Copycat in the race for Governor?

When are we going to see any of Creigh Deeds’ original ideas for improving the Commonwealth’s economic situation or the ideas for bringing new jobs to Virginia? (Crickets are still chirping)

Moran Attempts to Explain the Health Care Myths

http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=6279356&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=00ADEF&fullscreen=1

At Tuesday’s townhall hearing in Reston, Rep. Jim Moran had a difficult time explaining the health care myths to many in the audience.  Of course, there were some who were enthusiastic about the proposed health care plan in Congress, but many of Moran’s constituents did not buy the so-called “truths” about the health care bill, H.R. 3200.

After Moran finished talking, it proceeded to a contentious Q & A period, which you can watch in much better quality video on C-SPAN. During this Q & A, there were a few fights that broke out among members of the audience.

We can’t afford this health care plan, especially with our government driving us into a $1.27 Trillion deficit. Perhaps, it’s time that the government address their spending issues prior to the passage of health care reform legislation.

Rep. Moran's Health Care Townhall Meeting

I will be posting more videos and pictures from tonight’s health care townhall meeting with Rep. Jim Moran and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean tomorrow and throughout the week. However, I just wanted to give a brief overview of what I had witnessed at the event. From the time I arrived at 3:30 p.m., I sensed that there was going to be a lot of energy going both for and against the Congressman. I stood with a group of activists who are against the public option and the Congress health care plan. It was contentious at best.

Here are some pictures from the event.

New Energy, New Jobs

Today, Bob McDonnell released another ad touting his initiative to bring new jobs to Virginia. Throughout the campaign, McDonnell has been bringing several initiatives that will create new jobs and bring new businesses to the Commonwealth. Meanwhile, Creigh Deeds has remained silent on what he will do to improve Virginia’s economy and how he will boost employment in the Commonwealth.
