The Baucus Bill: Unfair to Women?

Today, the Congressional Budget Office budget estimate was released mentioning that the Baucus Bill is relatively deficit neutral. It is quite difficult to make this assumption considering that no one has seen the actual bill, only concepts. So, how does Baucus want to pay for this?

According to Amanda Carpenter’s article in The Washington Times, the Baucus Bill could have added a tax on women and certain products. Of course, this is referred to as a “Mommy tax” and would have placed feminine products, as well as breast pumps, pacemakers, ventilators, powered wheelchairs, and needles.

Is Baucus sexist that this would be one of his considerations? Thankfully, the Senate Finance Committee went back and took out this tax. Still, this is an outlandish idea that would have caused much backlash. How about using common sense for a change?

UPDATE: Turns out that the Baucus bill is non-existant…they are mere concepts. This is just for clarification.
