Giuliani Rumored to be Considering Senate Run

Fox News reports that former New York mayor and one time Presidential candidate, Rudy Giuliani, is considering a run for U.S. Senate in New York.

This does not surprise me, but I think Giuliani would be better suited to challenge current N.Y. Governor, David Paterson. The Governor’s race in New York is could be winnable for the GOP considering the unfavorable opinion of Paterson.

On the other hand, I can see Giuliani in the Senate. There is no doubt that he would drive the liberals crazy in the U.S. Senate.

  1. As much as I derided Guliani during his less-than-spectacular Presidential bid, I think he’d be a good fit for either race. I agree with you that Governor may be more fitting (since he’s proven himself as a master cleaner of fiscal and law enforcement messes during his tenure as Governor of a city that is larger than a handful of states), but I’m afraid he’s too well connected to the powers that be to take on the heir apparent Cuomo.

I think should Guliani knock out Gilibrand (and this is again a big if…..it’s still a year away and it’s still New York), we would see a fitting moderate Republican, not turncoats like Collins and Specter. Tough on crime, terrorism and fiscal issues but soft on social issues….and frankly, I could see Guliani playing the middle to the benefit of conservatives on some issues surrounding abortion (as in I think he’d back the Stupak amendment), but the million dollar question for Rudy! will be on guns. Still, a win will be a win in New York.

Think Al D’Amato take 2, with a less than severe case of foot in mouth.
