Here’s the wrong way to write a thank you note to your supporters after you lose an election or withdraw:
“I wanted to let you all know I’ve decided to end my campaign for the 11th congressional district seat in Virginia. This is one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make because I am not a quitter and doing so feels like quitting.
It has become apparent this week that the Virginia Republican party wants a self-funding candidate. I would have thought as a party we could have seen that in recent elections self-funding doesn’t mean a candidate can buy the election. We saw this most recently in the Democratic Gubernatorial primary race where self-funding was trumped by message and ideas. We went down this road in 2008 and we lost badly. I hope in 2010 the results are different.
I cannot thank you enough for your early support. I plan to stay involved and work to ensure we elect a good crop of delegate candidates this November. If you want to get involved in helping join the OurVirginiaNow Facebook group.
Paul Miller’s letter to his supporters.
Here is the more graceful and right way to write to your supporters after losing an election or withdrawing:
As you know, last night Steve Hunt was elected as the Republican nominee for the special election to replace Ken Cuccinelli on January 12th. To Steve, I send my sincere congratulations and thanks for a positive campaign focused on the issues that are important to Northern Virginia.
Thank you for all your support over the last month. Penny and I enjoyed spending time with many of you and very much appreciate your encouragement, your good advice and your prayers. I am very proud of what we accomplished and am humbled by the generous donations and 100′s of volunteer hours that were given to the effort. God has blessed us with tremendous friends – both old and new – and we extend our deep thanks to all of you!
Now our job is to get behind Steve Hunt and to ensure that he is the next State Senator from the 37th District.
We are all behind you, Steve!
On to victory!
Will Nance’s letter to supporters.
Which one has more class?

Nance has a ton of class and many hope he will consider a future run; as for Wisconsin Democrat, PAUL MILLER….ugh….
No comment at the fact that Marianne Horinko in her e-mail declined to endorse Steve Hunt OR that for the over 30 mail pieces she did, did she ever share the complete truth about her record. Furthermore, for a blog that is run by a “Libertarian-leaning” Republican who bashes office holders such as but not including Tom Davis, I think it somewhat funny you would talk about “class?”
Furthermore, this coming from the same group of people that loved Jeff Frederick and thought he was a great guy for not resigning in the midst of all the evidence he was going to be removed. He put RPV through hell for months and in the middle of McDonnell’s election AND yet, people still think he is a great guy. Not to mention, since then he has been public about not supporting McDonnell.
My point is this: either be across the board in your critique OR don’t provide any whatsoever.
NovaRep,
First and foremost, you have the choice whether or not to read my blog, and I have the right to publish whatever I choose.
Who says I was a strong supporter of Jeff Frederick? I did not support many of Jeff’s efforts in the end.
@ NoveRep, regarding:
“Furthermore, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah JEFF FREDERICK blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.”
Someone can’t get someone out of their head. Some crushes are just hard to get over.
Your right: I do have the choice whether or not to read. But, ironic how you leave out certain details of the story to suit your needs when getting your “point” across.
As for Frederick, since he is the grassroots conservative hero, I thought it a good example. And, it was this blog that supported him staying in…Again, not relaying all the facts regarding the TRUE reason why he was removed. I guess, if I had the time to sit here and explain to you in detail why, you might see differently, then again, maybe not.
I enjoy seeing this blog enjoys allowing their readers to comment, except they delete them!
Sorry about that. Unfortunately, I meant to delete a spam comment and accidentally hit your comment by mistake. This does happen with mobile technology, NovaRep. Glad to see you follow up with comments though. I will see if I can’t retrieve your previous comment when I get home.
For those new to the cage, the mention of Jeff Frederick is the Northern Virginia Republican blogosphere equivalent of Godwin’s Rule of Nazi Analogies. It was defensively provoked by mentioning Wisconsin Democrat Paul Miller, whom by shifting Party affiliation, easily comes across as a buy-sexual lobbyist, i.e., buy him something, and he’ll have sex with your Party.
