Welcome to the Nanny State…School Lunch Inspections?

Remember the days when you could take a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, along with a snack bag of Doritos and a Twinkie to school for lunch. Well, those days are gone like the wind.

Welcome to the Nanny State, where state officials can take your lunch and replace it with what they feel is the healthier option. Recently, a student at West Hoke Elementary School in North Carolina had her lunch removed, because a government inspector thought her lunch was not healthy enough.

According to the John W. Pope Civitas Foundation, the student brought a lunch packed by her mother, which contained a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, apple juice, and a snack bag of potato chips.

What is so unhealthy (maybe with the exception of potato chips) about the rest of the student’s lunch? The real question that should be brought up: Whatever happened to parental rights? Is it not the right of the parents to pack a lunch that best fits the nutritional needs of their children, without government intervention?

So, what did the government give the child in return for the so-called unhealthy lunch? Chicken Nuggets. They are supposedly healthier than a turkey and cheese sandwich, apple juice, and a banana. I wonder where the government official and school system took their nutritional courses.

Welcome to the Nanny State…where parental rights are assaulted every day and a freedom destroyed.

  1. What a pack of exaggerated rubbish! Thank so so much Crystal Clear Conservative for ‘clearing things up’. PB & J, doritos and a twinkie! I wouldn’t pack such a pathetic lunch for my children, ever. Maybe check the facts and then stick to them next time you post.

The PBJ reference, I believe, was used as an example of what we used to take to school back in the day.. Did you even read this article? Did you read “a lunch packed by her mother, which contained a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, apple juice, and a snack bag of potato chips.”, or did you read the first paragraph and immediately jump to an ignorant conclusion?
Congrats, you’ve made yourself look really, REALLY, stupid. Although looks can be deceiving, i doubt such is the case here.

  3. @emily… I think you really missed the point. What if you packed your kid a lunch that you yourself deemed healthy enough for your child, and upon arriving at school the lunch was taken away and processed chicken was offered instead? You(and every other parent on the planet) have the right to feed your kids whatever you see fit for them. Oh, wait.. HAD the right to. Get it??

  4. This is so ridiculous. And it happened to my daughter twice at the beginning of the school year until I put a stop to it.

What horrid foods did I feed my anti-sandwich 5 year old? The first time it was yogurt, graham crackers and raisins. The second time it was yogurt, apple slices and whole grain crackers.

The teacher defended her actions by claiming she thought they were a snack. That’s quite a snack for a 5 year old girl! Besides the fact that they don’t even bring snacks in to school. So why would it be a snack? Lame excuse, if you ask me.

The teacher also said it was school policy to order a lunch for any child that did not bring a sandwich. Are you kidding me? Since when can you only have a sandwich for lunch?

Also, it’s not like I was feeding her all kinds of junk for lunch. These seemed like nice, healthy, balanced lunches for a picky 5 year old that doesn’t like sandwiches.
