The Obama Campaign and the War on Women

image

You can tell the campaign is getting closer, as both the Romney and Obama campaigns have been gearing up with direct mail, television ads, and merciless attacks. It is enough to make someone who has no interest in politics cringe.

(By the way, I received the above ad at my apartment over the weekend. I had to laugh, as I have voted Republican ever since I was 18.)

However, the merciless attacks have appeared to come after a different demographic of sorts. President Obama, in his re-election campaign, has used the defunding of Planned Parenthood as a ploy to garner more votes from women. While there are some women who will vote for Obama based on Planned Parenthood, there are some who feel he has taken it too far with his tactics.

Recently, President Obama’s re-election campaign has been airing numerous television ads focusing on what Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan would do to Planned Parenthood. This smacks of desperation.

How so, you ask? Not every woman has abortion as their top issue for deciding an election. For example, the economy is still in a state of decline, and more women are now unemployed, compared to when President Obama took office. What will Obama do to address the economic situation our nation is facing? So far, nothing has been addressed, rather I keep hearing ads about how women should be fearing the fact that contraceptives and abortions will be eliminated.

Right now, I feel like my lady parts are under attack. I want to hear candidates discuss how they are going to get our economy back on track. I want to hear how our Presidential candidates plan to get us out of these endless wars we are fighting over in Afghanistan and Iraq, not push us into future wars.

This election, I plan to use my lady smarts and vote President Obama out of office. We don’t another four years of an apology tour, more destruction to our personal liberties, and the constant reminder that all women care about are free contraceptives and abortions.

By the way, TokenLibertarianGirl has a great take on the recent Obama ad with Lena Dunham that has been circulating around the internet. Here’s her take:

The Desperate Tactics of the Obama Campaign

This is sick and disgusting. If this is how the Obama campaign expects to garner supporters for the re-election, this is desperate…plain and simple.

The Obama caller then went back to her script, asking these clever questions:

1. How can you support a “Mormon” who does not believe in Jesus Christ?
2. What to you think about the “Nuns on the Bus” who support Obama?

Wow. Let’s look at how I would answer these questions.

My response to number 1: Why is this relevant to the election? The job market is tight and many people are unemployed. What is the Obama administration planning to do to address this issue? How about this…President Obama seems to be so focused on imposing a government mandate requiring that everyone has health insurance that covers contraceptive coverage. As a Catholic, my moral principles are under attack. What will Obama do if I refuse to take health insurance coverage? It seems like he would rather impose regulation after regulation on Americans, and this is in direct violation of our Constitutional liberties.

At this point of the conversation, I would fully expect to hear canned ham rhetoric on how this is contradictory to the Obama plan. Meanwhile, I would probably hear how Pope Benedict is wrong as well. Of course, the so-called Catholics for Obama would probably call me out for being a bad Catholic because I don’t hop-skip-jump for Obama.

Moving on to Question Two: What do the Nuns on the Bus for Obama have to do with prosperity? Again, I am forced to pay increased taxes to support wasteful government programs. Even more so, I am forced to go against my moral principles by submitting to ObamaCare. Meanwhile, aren’t these the same Nuns on the Bus that got in trouble with Pope Benedict for going against the teachings of the Catechism?

Again, I will probably hear canned talking points, instead of being addressed on the real issue that many Americans are facing: the Economy and how we are going to get people back into the workforce again.

Look, we have the choice. Do we re-elect the candidate who claims to be about hope and change, or do we elect a candidate who stands on principle and wants to get America back to work and repeal legislation that infringes on liberty?

The Great Hair Ticket

Well, it’s Romney/Ryan 2012!  Game on…and welcome to The Great Hair Ticket.

Am I disappointed in the pick?  No.  Actually, Romney needed Paul Ryan to boost the Republican ticket.  Ryan has a pretty solid record on fiscal issues, which will definitely be appealing to those who are fiscally conservative, and he also has a libertarian lean (as noted in the video below).

While there are some issues where I disagree with Ryan, I think he is a solid pick.  This will no doubt help Romney in the Midwest, where the race has been tightened.

We need change.  I don’t think the hope and change that was elected in 2008 is the answer (rather that change has been a disaster).  The real change is someone who is actually committed to turning around our economy and reducing government spending.  This has been an area, where Barack Obama and his cronies have failed consistently.  Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are more committed to getting America back on the right track.

Oh, and I am so glad this website is back…”Hey Girl, it’s Paul Ryan.”

Walker’s Victory Displays the True Colors of the Liberals

Congratulations to Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker! Walker (and his fellow Republicans) won the recall election last night. This means he can continue to be a thorn in the side of the public sector unions and bring true fiscal accountability to the Badger State.

However, Walker’s victory was not well received by the union workers and the Democrats. Instead, they found ways to suck up another fifteen minutes of fame by whining about their defeat and even using violence (as you can see in the clip). I feel the need to highlight some of the pathetic displays by the liberals in Wisconsin last night.

Cue 1: A supporter of Tom Barrett got a little emotional over the defeat.

The exact quote from the emotional Barrett supporter:

I’m very emotional because we all had invested in this. This was it. If we didn’t win tonight, the end of the U.S. as we know it just happened. This is it. We just got outspent $34 million to $4 million. And we don’t have any more resource left but the people you see here behind me. And if the people you see here behind me can’t get it done tonight, it’s done. Democracy’s dead.

So, you had a lot invested in defeating Walker…big whoop-de-freaking-do! However, don’t go saying the end of the U.S. is over due to the loss. Heck no, it isn’t! Rather, Wisconsin is better off under Walker’s leadership, as he has nearly eliminated the deficit and has not raised taxes. In fact, property taxes actually went down in the state. (Source)

If you think the whining was not enough, you are right. Another Barrett supporter actually took things to the extreme by slapping Barrett in the face before he delivered his concession speech.

Cue 2: A nice slap in the face really gets your point across…NOT!

Wow…this is real classy! I thought liberals represented the party of peace. I guess not. Hasn’t anyone ever told her that violence is not the answer or the way to persuade people? I guess not.

Despite the outlandish (and humorous) behavior of Barrett supporters, I have to congratulate Walker, Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, and three of the four State Senators (who were also recalled and emerged victorious).

Happy Retirement, Dick Lugar!

Yesterday, a perfect defeat happened in Indiana, as Dick Lugar was defeated by Richard Mourdock. Mourdock ran a great campaign and really drove home the point that Lugar was an outsider. Lugar resides in Virginia, and he was mostly out-of-touch with his constituency. Now, it will be interesting to see how Mourdock will fare against his Democratic opponent, Rep. Joe Donnelly in the General Election.

In the meantime, we bid good bye to President Obama’s favorite Republican. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Bob Marshall Qualifies for U.S. Senate Primary

Yesterday, Delegate Bob Marshall (R-Manassas) delivered petitions to the Virginia State Board of Elections with more than 17,100 signatures to qualify him for the U.S. Senate Primary on June 12. Below is his statement:

“Thanks to much prayer and hard work, we achieved our goal,” Marshall (R., Manassas) said. “Now that I am on the ballot, my road to victory, as in the past, will depend on People Power to overcome Money Power. It will be the same in this primary election.

“The credit in reaching this goal goes to hundreds of grass-root volunteers who spent countless hours gathering petition signatures while I was busy on the people’s business in the Virginia General Assembly session.

“Since I announced my candidacy for the U.S. Senate on Jan. 12, these selfless, energetic and dedicated volunteers spent many hours collecting signatures by talking with friends, walking door to door, standing outside libraries and grocery stores, and attending political and civic meetings.

“We are setting dates for fund-raisers, state-wide mailings, media, signs and staff. Given the present state of the economy, I will demonstrate, as I have in all my past elections, that I am a candidate well-tested in running frugal campaigns and making every dollar count.”

Marshall has never voted for a tax increase since he was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1991.

In 2007, Marshall sued then-Gov. Tim Kaine and GOP leaders over a law establishing unelected taxing authorities. He prevailed when the Virginia Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the statute violated the Commonwealth’s constitution, blocking 14 new taxes in Northern Virginia and Tidewater.

“I had to buck the entire political establishment,” Marshall said, “but I knew my first allegiance was to the people. This is how I will serve in Washington, should the people elect me to represent them in the U.S. Senate.”

In 2010, Marshall authored Virginia’s “Health Care Freedom Act” being used by Virginia as the basis to sue the federal government over Obamacare.

“Free men and women cannot be ordered by government to purchase a product,” Marshall said.

Marshall also authored the “One-Man, One-Woman Marriage Amendment” to the Virginia constitution approved by voters in 2006.

“It is not hate speech to uphold standards for family affirmed by thousands of years of Judeo-Christian values,” Marshall said.
Marshall’s record shows he believes government must treat all human beings equally.

“Our Declaration of Independence states that all men are created, not born, equal,” Marshall said. “Our rights come from the hand of God, not man, and therefore no government is justified in removing the right to life, liberty or property from any person. This current president is so radically pro-abortion that he even voted against a law to provide medical help to children born alive after abortion. Tim Kaine would toe the Democrat party line in Washington, and I will do everything I can to prevent that.”

Kaine is the Democrats’ presumptive Senate nominee.

“Serious economic problems plague our country, robbing our children’s future and indebting our nation to foreign dictators,” Marshall said. “Do I think America can change direction? Absolutely! I would not be running for the Senate if I thought otherwise. Our Founders called for a moral people to animate government and preserve our freedom. If we want our freedom preserved, we must be eternally vigilant.”

Ken Vaughn for Congress

I wished I could still vote in the 11th District. After all, I now live in the 8th District, where we have a Congressman more interested in getting himself arrested or screaming at constituents (including a 27-year Army Veteran).

In the 11th District, there are two Republicans running for the nomination: Ken Vaughn and Chris Perkins. I have had the opportunity to look over the materials for both candidates, and I believe that Ken Vaughn is the better candidate for the nomination.

Vaughn is a strong defender of the Constitution, and will defend/protect our liberties. After all, Vaughn understands the fiscal issues facing our country and has a plan to get our budget back in order. Additionally, Vaughn is solid on the issue of protecting life (where his opponent has been largely silent). The real issue that completely persuades me to support Vaughn is his positions on liberty. Vaughn realizes that both the PATRIOT Act and TSA have been an infringement on our liberties. With the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, we need someone who will fight to make sure we are within Constitutional means of declaring war (Congress formally declaring, not just following the leader).

After listening to Perkins speak at a YR meeting, I gathered he is not a big fan of Ron Paul (and his supporters). He admitted that to a few of us, who inquired about his positions on SOPA and some economic issues. Rob at The Liberty Zone even added that he is not very interested in Second Amendment related issues and that he will not end entitlements.

As a strong Ron Paul supporter, I am not too keen on Perkins after talking with him about the issues that should concern many in the 11th District. Vaughn offers a refreshing change and could provide Connolly with a strong challenge, if he gets the nomination.

While it is a shame that I am no longer in the 11th, there is no doubt that this primary will be one to watch.

Bob Marshall Announces U.S. Senate Bid

Today, Del. Bob Marshall (R-Manassas) announced that he will be running for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.  According to a release from his campaign, Marshall believes he is the best candidate to beat Tim Kaine in the November General Election.

“I already have a ‘can do’ record of challenging Tim Kaine and winning in the public arena on major economic and social issues, and I can do it again,” Marshall (R., 13th District) said in a statement released this morning from his office in the General Assembly Building on Capitol Square, here.

Marshall ran for the Republican nomination in 2008, losing by one percentage point at the convention to former Gov. Jim Gilmore.

As a Delegate, Marshall has been instrumental in the Marriage Amendment to the Virginia Constitution, which voters ratified with 57 percent of ballots in the 2006 general election.  Marshall also wrote the Virginia Health Care Freedom Act of 2010, which was the basis of Virginia’s challenge to President Obama’s health care law.  You can learn more about the other successes Marshall has championed by clicking here.

Marshall is a staunch conservative, and there is no doubt that I believe he can defeat Tim Kaine in the November election.

Why Energy Matters?

The American Petroleum Institute (API) recently launched a new initiative, Vote 4 Energy, which will focus on why energy issues should concern many voters during the 2012 elections.  According to API, this is not a partisan issue, rather energy is an issue that should concern many Americans, as it impacts the economy and job development for the future.

Below is a video featuring Tom of Virginia Right:

Energy is an important issue.  With the potential rise in fuel prices, there is no doubt that something needs to be done to utilize our own resources to help curb our reliance on foreign oil.
