Coasting to Victory…

I know I might be premature in this prediction (and it’s not even Labor Day yet), but things are looking really good for Robert Hurt in the 5th Congressional District. According to a recent Survey USA poll, Hurt is ahead of Rep. Tom Perriello by 16 percentage points. With this huge margin, Hurt is on his way to victory in November if this momentum continues.

Panic Mode for the DNC in the 5th District

It seems like Rep. Tom Perriello’s seat might not be safe after all, especially after The New York Times reported in this weekend’s edition that there are concerns about his re-election chances.

“After collecting pledges for millions of volunteer hours, O.F.A., under the auspices of the Democratic National Committee, is starting its “You Fight, We’ll Fight” effort by asking people to help in two regions to aid vulnerable lawmakers — in Colorado, for Senator Michael Bennet, the Democrat appointed last year — and in Virginia’s 5th congressional district, for Representative Tom Perriello, the freshman Democrat.”

If you think this is bad, then you should definitely check out the special plea that David Plouffe sent to Organizing for America.

“Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado and Congressman Tom Perriello of Virginia are two new members of Congress who have stood up for health reform and suffered vicious, deceptive attacks from the opposition. Now they’re both facing tough re-election fights, and they need our support.”

Why would the Democrats be having anxiety attacks over this race? Is it due to Perriello’s support of almost all of Obama’s policy objectives? After all, Perriello supports Obama’s cap and trade initiatives, when the district he represents is not in favor of many of the President’s key policies.

Money Bomb for Mike McPadden

With the national debt rising and our Constitutional liberties threatened daily, we need someone in Congress who will fight to reduce the debt by promoting strong fiscal constraint and adhering to the Constitution. Mike McPadden is running for Congress in Virginia’s 5th District, and he is a candidate who will fight to restore our country by fighting for a limited government and reducing government spending. Lately, McPadden’s candidacy has been gaining traction, and my friend (and new blogger), Clay Ramsey has been working hard to ensure that McPadden will become the candidate to take on Tom Perriello in the General Election. You can learn more about McPadden by going to his website. Also, check out his video on health care reform.

McPadden Calls for a Conservative Convention

Things are beginning to heat up in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District Republican nominating contest. After the 5th Congressional District committee decided to utilize a primary to decide who the nominee will be, there is still a push for a convention.

Mike McPadden, who is running for the nomination has urged the other conservative candidates in the race to join him in endorsing and supporting a “US House of Representatives VA-5 Conservative Convention” to nominate one conservative candidate to go against State Senator Robert Hurt in the June 8th Republican Primary.

Inside the Fifth District the idea of a Conservative Convention is gaining traction. Outside the Fifth District national grass roots organizers have offered to fund the Conservative Fifth District Convention in March or April.

According to Mike McPadden, what has precipitated this call is that in December, Tea Party Patriots, Grass Root Republicans, and other conservatives spoke loud and clear to have a nominating convention instead of a very costly primary. Unfortunately their hopes were dashed when the leadership of the Fifth District voted by secret ballot for a primary.

McPadden says, “We must do everything we can to ensure out in the open that our next Congressman is a strict Constitutionalist who upholds the conservative values of lower taxes and limited government.”

Convinced that uniting in a Conservative Convention will bring about a positive outcome, McPadden states, “The grass roots of the Republican Party will have their voices heard and their votes counted. Second, deliberately narrowing the Fifth District field to two candidates will increase the odds that a conservative will win the nomination. And third, it could turn the tide of moderate leanings from within the Republican Party and restore the ‘Big Tent’ party of Reagan to its conservative moorings.”

Is the Health Care Bill Repealable?

Yes, Virginia, the Senate Democrats are simply out of control. I know this is not exactly the news that puts you in the Christmas spirit, but the Senate health care bill continues to prove their reckless behavior. With one more procedural vote, the Senate will be voting on their version of the health care bill on Christmas Eve and compromising the very liberties and freedoms we have when it comes to selecting the right health coverage for our needs.

However, what happens if it passes? Can certain aspects of the bill be repealed? It will be difficult, but there is one provision that will not be able to repealed by future Congresses. Senator Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) indicated that on page 1020 of the Senate health care bill, there is a provision that says, “it shall not be in order in the Senate or the House of Representatives to consider any bill, resolution, amendment, or conference report that would repeal or otherwise change this subsection.” This would make the Independent Medicare Advisory Board permanent.

Basically, this would compromise everything our Founding Fathers had envisioned for our country and for the legislative bodies. If a legislative body can not go in and modify previously passed legislation, then what good is it? Not very good or serviceable.

Michael McPadden, who is running for the Republican nomination in the 5th District of Virginia released this statement.

“No Congress has the right to tell future Congresses what to do. Un-repealable, just watch us Harry.”

I agree with McPadden. Perhaps, it is time to throw Harry Reid and the corrupt Democrats out come November 2010 and start with a clean slate of patriots willing to do the work for the people.
