Big Endorsement Today for the Republican Ticket
Virginia Virtucon reports that there will be a big endorsement for Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling, and Ken Cuccinelli today in Richmond from the Fraternal Order of Police. This is great news for the Republican ticket.
The announcement will take place in the House Briefing Room in the General Assembly at 9 a.m.
On a side note, yesterday, McDonnell picked up the endorsement of the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce NOVABizPAC, adding to the other endorsements by the Virginia Realtors PAC, Virginia AgPAC, NFIB, Virginia Credit Union League, and the National Rifle Association.
GOP Releases Energy Act
The Republicans in Congress have released a proposal that will increase advancements in addressing the energy crisis our country is currently facing. With the rising prices at the pump, a sinking economy, and the possibility of a national energy tax, “cap and trade,” Congress needs to address this issue with a pragmatic, environmentally conscious approach. The Republicans realize that Americans have fallen on hard times with the slumping economy, and they have created a proposal (unlike the Democrats, who have proposed the cap and trade tax) that would address this crisis without raising taxes.
Some of the initiatives included in the bill are:
- Lifting the drilling restrictions in ANWR, the Mountain West, and the Outer Continental Shelf
- Pushing for clean and emissions free nuclear energy, along with increasing the number of nuclear reactors
- Relying on our own renewable resources, such as clean-coal technology, wind and solar energy
- Cutting frivolous lawsuits that would hinder the development of energy advancements
Americans need to rid themselves of being dependent on foreign countries for oil and other energy sources. Our country offers the opportunity to be energy independent, and all we need to do is to tap into them without harming the environment, which is possible.

Interview with Bob Marshall
This is the last in the CCC Interview series. Bob Marshall stopped by for an interview with me during last Saturday’s RPV Convention. Marshall stopped by to discuss the principles we need to embrace if we want to get back on track, how his campaign is going, and the issues we need to address. There is no doubt that we need more leaders like Bob Marshall, whether they are serving in Congress, at the State level, or on the local level. To learn more about Marshall, check out his website.
Before I forget, I would like to thank the House Republican Caucus for sponsoring the media studios, Steven Albertson and Cortland Putbrese for their work with the RPV New Media Committee, Greg of Black Velvet Bruce Li for his assistance and patience with someone who has no on-air interview experience, and those who have helped in making the mini media studio happen at the RPV Convention.

Party Identification…Call Some Undeclared
Gallup recently released a poll asking how voters classify themselves, whether they consider themselves Republican, Democrat, or Independent. The results are particularly intriguing, especially since it appears that there might a statistical tie between Independent voters, who tend to lean Republican or Democrat.
For those who were polled from May 7-10, 2009, 32% considered themselves to be Republican, 32% considered themselves to be Democrat, while 34% considered themselves to be Independent. There was another statistical tie between the Republicans (including leaners) and Democrats (including leaners) at 45%.
What this means? There is a great shift from last month, and perhaps, this is due to many voters becoming angered by Obama’s policies, especially with the bailouts and increased spending at the government level, which has caused our country to plunge further into debt. Since Democrats can no longer blame George W. Bush anymore for the War in Iraq and other policies, they are beginning to run out of ideas on ways to improve our country. In fact, many of their proposals (economic, health care, etc.) are not resonating with the American people. Perhaps, this is why there is a shift on party identification.
Why did Snarlin' Arlen Switch Parties?
He was desperate to save his political career. You see, Specter is a classic example of what the GOP does not need, and for once, I am glad to see him go back to where he rightfully belongs. However, Specter knows that he has alienated his base, and by switching, he might have the chance to get re-elected. Specter also abandoned the core principles of fiscal responsibility and fighting for limited government. In a sense, he was a unprincipled hack.
But, who’s waiting in the trenches??? That’s right…Pat Toomey. Toomey is a true conservative, who will fight tooth and nail against Obama’s fiscal policies. The polls show that Specter is trailing Toomey by 20%, which does not look good.
Au Revoir Arlen Specter, and I hope you will enjoy your status in the minority (if re-elected) in 2010.
Could Daniel Hannan give the GOP some advice?
I would like to thank a good friend for passing along this YouTube clip of Daniel Hannan, who is the MEP for South East England. Hannan delivered a speech, while Britain Prime Minister Gordon Brown visited the European Parliament on Tuesday. Hannan called Brown out on his excessive spending and how he is ignoring free trade. Maybe, the GOP needs Hannan to give them some advice on calling out the President and those who stand against our liberties through voting for the Democrat power grabs.
Here is the video and the text of his speech.
Breaking News Regarding State GOP Chair
Last night, the 11th Congressional District Republican Committee met to discuss a resolution to call for Jeff Frederick’s resignation as Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia. The resolution failed to pass. Developing…
Does Rush Represent the GOP?
Right now, I am wondering if there are any Michael Steele supporters regretting their support for his RNC Chairmanship. With the recent Rush Limbaugh controversy, along with a lot of fellow Republicans angered at Steele for his leadership. Although he has only been the Chairman for a month, Steele has fired the entire staff and has yet to fill some key positions. Byron York of The Washington Examiner reports that this is starting to raise some suspicions with Steele, especially since he has been appearing on television and not dealing with the internal affairs at the RNC. Now, I am not completely saying there is no hope for Steele, rather I think he just needs to focus on the job the RNC membership elected him to do.
While I like Rush Limbaugh, I do not believe he is the right figure to lead the RNC, and I do not think he is the next leader of the conservative movement. Limbaugh is definitely a strong conservative, but he is polarizing by many Republicans (not just the RINOS, rather those with a libertarian bent). However, he is not afraid to shy away from a battle, but is the ideologue needed to lead the party? We need someone who will be a tireless worker for the party, but be able to reach out on the technological end, campaign end, and get candidates who will stand strong for our core principles of limited government and fiscal responsibility.
Limbaugh will not unite the party or really go out there to get our candidates passionate about our core principles. A recent Rasmussen Report shows that “just 11% of Republicans view Limbaugh as the leader of the G.O.P., while 81% of Republicans do not view him as their leader, and 8% remain undecided.” While Limbaugh may not be a good choice, there are certainly other leaders who could be considered strong leaders for our party.
Why don’t we look back to the candidates who ran? No doubt, I believed Ken Blackwell would have been the best choice to represent the G.O.P. His vision for revamping the G.O.P. involved incorporating technology, working with young Republicans and other ethnic outreach groups, strengthening the party platform, and recruiting candidates who would not back down from the principles. There were other viable candidates, like Saul Anuzis and Katon Dawson, who could have filled this void as well.
However, Steele was selected and maybe, we should give him the benefit of the doubt and allow him to lead. If we fail, then we can focus on finding a new leader for the party. Steele just needs to be focused on his job, not television performances.
Traitors do not belong to the GOP
Ronald Reagan once said, “Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican.” This was the implied 11th Commandment, and I know that I am long guilty of bashing the GOP during the first bailout. However, today’s vote on the Stimulus bill in the Senate validates my reasoning on why I am not going to be supportive of three Republicans. In fact, they are no longer Republicans, as they defected and became traitors or Democrat-Lites.
Olympia Snowe (ME), Susan Collins (ME) and Arlen Specter (PA) should all be kicked out of the Republican party. They no longer stand for the principles of limited government and fiscal accountability. Additionally, they should face strong conservative opponents, who believe in these core principles.
Our party is not the place for those who do not stand strong to the tenets of being strong fiscal stewards. Our party is not the place for those who turn their backs on the principles of life and liberty either. Hopefully, the REAL Republicans will stand up against the compromised version of this horrid legislation.
Brokaw Uses ‘Jesus a Community Organizer’ To Bash Giuliani
Tom Brokaw, incredibly, used the distasteful “Jesus was a community organizer line, Pilate was a governor” line Donna Brazile made infamous to confront Giuliani over comments in his GOP convention speech about Obama’s community organizing. Brokaw went so far as to display a button bearing the phrase. No, Brokaw wasn’t actually wearing it.
How about talking about the issues that matter to Americans? Seriously, petty attacks don’t get things accomplished. Instead, we have a sitting Democrat Congressman (Steve Cohen of TN) comparing Obama to Jesus and Sarah Palin to being an evil tyrant (i.e. Pontius Pilate). Shouldn’t Congressman Cohen talk about the real issues facing Americans, instead of playing into the entertainment card? Shouldn’t the media be focused on being reporting news from an objective viewpoint, instead of leaning to one side?
