What is Steve Shannon trying to hide?

It seems that the Attorney General’s race is starting to take an interesting turn, as it appears Democratic candidate Steve Shannon does not want the upcoming debate in Virginia Beach to be taped. On Saturday, June 20th at 9:00 a.m., both Ken Cuccinelli and Steve Shannon will have their first debate, sponsored by the Virginia Bar Association. The Cuccinelli campaign wants to make the debate available through the internet to all throughout the Commonwealth.

While Cuccinelli stands for openness and accountability in the government, Shannon seems to be hiding something that he does not want Virginians to know. Whatever it is, shouldn’t Shannon be sharing this with the voters?

And then there were three

Tonight brought some surprises with the results from the Democratic primary, as Creigh Deeds received the nomination for Governor, Jody “Jody in Wonderland” Wagner received the Lieutenant Governor nomination, and Steve Shannon (who was unopposed) received the Attorney General nomination. This will also be a rematch between Bob McDonnell and Deeds once again. McDonnell defeated Deeds by 360 votes in 2005 for Attorney General.

Additionally, there were some interesting House of Delegates upsets: In Arlington, Patrick Hope won the Democratic nomination, while Mark Keam won the nomination in the 35th District and will face off against Jim Hyland in November.

Additionally, there were three contested Republican primaries throughout the Commonwealth. In Roanoke, where Del. William Fralin is retiring, Bill Cleaveland received the nomination. In Lynchburg, Scott Garrett will be facing off against Del. Shannon Valentine in November, and in Hanover County, where Del. Frank Hargrove is retiring, John Cox received the nomination.

It looks to be an interesting race ahead, where we can truly focus on the issues and ways to prove to the voters across the Commonwealth who has the better vision for lowering taxes, focusing on energy initiatives, and improving the economy.

Walking the Picket Lines…Nothing New with the Dems

Virginia is a right-to-work state with a good reputation for the business community. In fact, many businesses are seeking to relocate their businesses to Virginia due to the excellent environment. This might change if one of the following happens: a) the Card Check bill is passed in Congress and signed into law by President Obama, or b) if the Democrats win victory in Virginia. Well, all three Democrat candidates for Governor and one Democrat candidate for Lieutenant Governor love the unions so much that they appeared at a picket line with food and some even walked with the striking union members. They made speeches, and the most ironic thing was that this all took place at a hotel chain that recently relocated to Virginia.

You see, workers are afforded the freedom to choose to join or abstain from being part of a union in Virginia. This freedom allows one to decide whether they have to squander away a portion of their income in dues or have the money available to save or spend in this difficult economic environment. When we think of who will best represent the Commonwealth of Virginia, we know that the GOP has a better record on a conducive business environment with Bob McDonnell and Bill Bolling. Both candidates will stand strong for Virginia’s Right to Work Law and believe in continuing Virginia’s record as a great place for business.
