Important Poll
Stevens Miller (you know…the Dulles District Supervisor, who also ran against Tom Rust and lost) is in the news once again. This time, The Loudoun Independent has a poll asking who would be the first Loudoun County supervisor you would vote out of office. The last I checked Miller was leading the pack in being the most likely voted out. Ouch!
So, go vote today! Stevens Miller…not even for dogcatcher!
Stevens Miller Fumbles Tele-townhall
What in the world was he thinking? Stevens Miller, who is running against Tom Rust in the 86th District held a tele-townhall meeting tonight. This is one of the most important sports watching nights of the year (outside of the Super Bowl): the World Series game 2 (where the Yankees will handily defeat the Phillies) and the UNC vs. Virginia Tech football game (Go Hokies).
Miller rambled on about his brilliant ideas from the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, which is odd considering that he has made no accomplishments.
Words can come back to haunt you…
Words can come back to haunt you, especially when you are placed on the record for supporting bringing the Redskins Hall of Fame to Loudoun County. The Hall of Fame would have made Loudoun County, the corporate headquarters of the Redskins franchise and would have provided over $100,000 to promote the county. Who voted against it? None other than Stevens Miller, who is the Dulles District Supervisor running for Delegate in the 86th District…(Funny, he actually had to move into the district to run for Delegate).
At a recent debate, Miller decided to take credit for something he didn’t do. He claimed that he supported the Redskins Hall of Fame. It’s kind of hard to be against something, then turn around a year later to say you supported the measure. Flip-flop-itis has struck again!
Life must be rough for Stevens Miller
Things keep getting more interesting for Stevens Miller, who moved into the 86th district just to run against Tom Rust.
At a campaign rally last Saturday held for Miller, only 25 people showed up at the event. When you add in his campaign staffers, SEIU canvassers, speakers (Del. Ken Plum, John Foust, and Steve Shannon), there was next to one attending this event.
Pretty sad, heh?
Flush! Stevens Miller Loses His Dignity During Debate
At Tuesday night’s debate, sponsored by the League of Women’s Voters, Stevens Miller again attacks Tom Rust on the septic system issue. Rust, then cleared the issue for Miller, by saying that he passed the legislation to allow Loudoun County control of the septic system issue. Of course, Loudoun County did not want to deal with the septic system issue.
Concerning a question posed to Miller on why he wanted to give up his supervisor job, Miller said he wanted to unclog gridlock concerning local matters at the state level. As an example, Miller brought up Loudoun’s fight to regulate alternative septic systems, which are common in rural sections of Loudoun.
However, looking out over the suburban crowd, Rust speculated: “Septic systems are probably something that don’t interest anyone in here.”

Another highlight of the evening is that Miller missed an important Board of Supervisors meeting to debate Rust…way to abandon your job to represent those who elected you in the Dulles District.
Perhaps, this is just another sign of desperation from Miller.
Debating the Issues in Sterling
Sterling, Va.–Before an audience of 40 supporters and concerned residents at Park View High School, both Del. Tom Rust and Stevens Miller squared off to prove which candidate will best represent the 86th District in Richmond. The debate began shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday night and was moderated by Sheldon Pratt, who introduced both candidates without their official titles. Del. Rust opened by touting his endorsements.
The first question posed to the candidates was about whether or not they would raise the gas tax. Miller ducked the question, but brings up a local income tax for Northern Virginia as a suggestion to raise revenue. Rust called for more transportation funding, which caused rebuttal amongst the candidates.
Of course, it goes without saying that the next question focused on the abuser fees, and Miller attacked Rust on his support for the abuser fees, then calls for change, as well as bashing the toll road. Both candidates want to use the revenue from the tolls to fund the rail to Dulles.
After talking about transportation, the debate then turned to the state budget. Rust said everything was on the table, while Miller claimed that he lowered property taxes as Dulles district Supervisor on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. The claim by Miller is untrue, as pointed out in previous posts.
Lastly, there was a question which focused on the increase of gangs and crime in Sterling. This question asked each candidate what they planned to do to stop this problem. Miller stated that he does not think “enhanced law enforcement” is the answer. Rust discussed his record of protecting the community against gang violence.
Miller attacks Rust on Septic Systems…Again
There’s a broken record in Stevens Miller’s campaign, and it happens to be the issue of septic systems. In an interview with Blue Commonwealth, Miller again claims that Del. Tom Rust has gone backwards on one specific area of land use regulation.
“Rust wants to take us backwards on one area of land use regulation where we have some authority. The Commonwealth of Virginia did authorize municipalities to regulate septic systems. It’s not the sexiest issue you’re ever going to legislate, but for people who are conservation minded and people in rural parts of the state, this is a critical issue. In the absence of aggressive maintenance and instruction schedules, these systems are dangerous, they break down, and threaten the environment.”
Perhaps, it is time for Miller to consider that septic systems are regulated by the State Department of Health.
Desperately Seeking Attention–Stevens Miller Style
Six weeks out, and Stevens Miller is already forced to grasp onto third party attacks. Over at Blue Virginia, Lowell attacks Loudoun County Supervisor, Eugene Delgaudio, then shows pictures of Del. Tom Rust and Delgaudio standing at the same Back-to-School night. Is this the best they got? Delgaudio has won three elections in Sterling, while Miller is renting a house in Sterling for the campaign. Where does Miller go from here?
Even more bizarre, Lowell posts a photo from a town hall meeting with Rust between Rep. Frank Wolf and Chairman of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, Scott York. Miller’s campaign must be in worse shape than I thought if he’s going after Rust by tying him to the two of the most popular politicians in Loudoun County.
Update: Miller’s campaign released some attack ads today against Rust. Currently, Miller is trailing in the polls, and his only reported accomplishment as a Supervisor was a sign ordinance.

Stevens Miller Attacks Fellow Loudoun BOS Members
Today, in unusual fashion, Loudoun County Supervisor Stevens Miller (D-Dulles) attacks his fellow Loudoun BOS for not having a minority candidate in the final round of recruits for a new county administrator. He referred to other BOS members as being bigots.
Wow, with all of this name calling, one would think that Miller could have handled this situation better. Perhaps, he should focus on the educational backgrounds and the qualifications of the applicants before making such rash comments or attend hearings in person to help decide which candidates would proceed through.
Stevens Miller was more interested in running for the next office, instead of doing the job he was elected to do and helping with the hiring process for the next County Administrator.
