In case you haven’t seen this…

The race in Virginia’s 5th District continues to heat up.

Coasting to Victory…

I know I might be premature in this prediction (and it’s not even Labor Day yet), but things are looking really good for Robert Hurt in the 5th Congressional District. According to a recent Survey USA poll, Hurt is ahead of Rep. Tom Perriello by 16 percentage points. With this huge margin, Hurt is on his way to victory in November if this momentum continues.

Special House Session Reveals Another Bailout

Just what our country needed…another bailout. Thanks to the Democrats in Congress who ignored the wishes of their constituents by voting for H.R. 1568, a no-name bill that will dump borrowed dollars into the states. Tertium Quids reports that this bill was used to prevent teacher and public safety worker layoffs. Additionally, the House also voted to let the lame duck session (the session from Election Day to December) continue as planned, blocking a resolution proposed by Republicans that would eliminate this session to prevent House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s agenda from moving forward.

How did Virginia’s Congressional Delegation vote:

H.R. 1586:
Voting YEA Connolly, Nye, Perriello, Moran, Scott, Boucher
Voting NO Forbes, Goodlatte, Wolf, Cantor, Wittman

Blocking Lame Duck:
Voting for Lame Duck: Connolly, Perriello, Boucher, Moran, Scott
Voting to block Lame Duck: Nye, Forbes, Goodlatte, Wolf, Cantor, Wittman

Sounds to me that voters should remember those voting in favor of H.R. 1586 (continuing to drive America further into debt) and Lame Duck.

The Outrage: Rep. Perriello's Shocking Statement

Just when you think things could not get more outrageous with health care and Congress, there is a nice video of a Democratic Congressman being very truthful with Constituents. Rep. Tom Perriello (D-Va.) said, “If you don’t tie our hands, we’ll keep stealing.” Considering Perriello’s voting record on the stimulus and other wasteful spending bills, this comment is spot on.

Panic Mode for the DNC in the 5th District

It seems like Rep. Tom Perriello’s seat might not be safe after all, especially after The New York Times reported in this weekend’s edition that there are concerns about his re-election chances.

“After collecting pledges for millions of volunteer hours, O.F.A., under the auspices of the Democratic National Committee, is starting its “You Fight, We’ll Fight” effort by asking people to help in two regions to aid vulnerable lawmakers — in Colorado, for Senator Michael Bennet, the Democrat appointed last year — and in Virginia’s 5th congressional district, for Representative Tom Perriello, the freshman Democrat.”

If you think this is bad, then you should definitely check out the special plea that David Plouffe sent to Organizing for America.

“Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado and Congressman Tom Perriello of Virginia are two new members of Congress who have stood up for health reform and suffered vicious, deceptive attacks from the opposition. Now they’re both facing tough re-election fights, and they need our support.”

Why would the Democrats be having anxiety attacks over this race? Is it due to Perriello’s support of almost all of Obama’s policy objectives? After all, Perriello supports Obama’s cap and trade initiatives, when the district he represents is not in favor of many of the President’s key policies.

Perriello and Connolly Vote to Bring Detainees to the U.S.

Yesterday, the House voted to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, and now, this paves the way for the relocation of prisoners to the U.S. What this means is that risk of having dangerous terrorists placed in a detention facility in the U.S. has just risen, and it could mean that they could be housed here in Virginia. This is not good in terms of national security, because the risk of one of these criminals could break out of prison and placing harm on our community (or other communities, if the Gitmo Detainees are moved to another area of the country).

So, who cast the deciding vote in favor of Speaker Pelosi’s grand plan? Rep. Tom Perriello of Virginia’s Fifth District. You heard that right, Perriello decided to abandon what was good for the people of Virginia for the sake of party leadership. Perriello voted against an amendment offered by Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-CA) that would have prohibited the closure of Guantanamo Bay, which failed 212-212, where he cast the deciding vote.

Also, voting in favor of Speaker Pelosi’s plan to bring Gitmo detainees to the U.S. was Rep. Gerry Connolly. While this is no surprise, as Connolly is a puppet for Pelosi, it should be particularly concerning for those within the 11th, especially if the prisoners are relocated to Virginia. National security should be of importance to Connolly, as he represents a district that has more government workers, who commute to Alexandria (a site, where the detainees could be placed). Of course, this doesn’t matter to Connolly, as evidenced in this video (H/T to Virginia Virtucon).
