Reflections on Veterans Day
I remembered sitting at my parents’ kitchen table in Maryland in May 2000 with a somber look. My grandfather, a World War II vet, had passed away due to esophageal cancer, and we were reminiscing about a man who served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Looking back, it might seem so odd that I mentioning this, but I remember him saying how he served out of a love for his country. It wasn’t something he was obligated to do, but something he wanted to do. His sons (including my father) and grandson followed him in service to our country.
Today (and every day), I honor them and all veterans of our Armed Services. It is for the love of country that so many sacrificed their lives for our freedom, something that should never be forgotten. It is for the love of country that many veterans were separated from their families to serve in foreign countries and conflicts. Thanks for your service and devotion to our country.
Thank You, Veterans!
A special thank you to my father and uncles, who served during Vietnam, and my late grandfather, who served during World War II.
